A bundle of sticks
Bó đũa
A father had a family of sons who were perpetually quarreling among themselves.

When he failed to heal their disputes by his exhortations, he determined to give them a practical illustration of the evils of disunion; and for this purpose he one day told them to bring him a bundle of sticks.
When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it.
He next opened the faggot, took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into his sons' hands, upon which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words:
Chúng không chịu nghe lời ông khuyên bảo đừng cãi nhau nữa, nên ông muốn dạy cho chúng một bài học thực tiễn là khi mất đoàn kết thì tệ hại như thế nào; vì vậy một ngày kia ông bảo chúng đem đến cho ông một bó đũa.
Khi chúng làm theo, ông đặt bó đũa vào tay lần lượt từng đứa một, bảo chúng bẻ gãy bó đũa. Chúng lấy hết sức bình sinh mà vẫn không tài nào bẻ gãy được bó đũa.
Rồi ông tháo bó đũa ra, cầm từng chiếc đũa rời một, đặt vào tay các con mình, bây giờ chúng bẻ gãy rất dễ dàng. Ông mới nói với chúng:
"My sons, if you are of one mind, and unite to assist each other, you will be as this faggot, uninjured by all the attempts of your enemies; but if you are divided among yourselves, you will be broken as easily as these sticks."
"Các con ạ, nếu các con đồng tâm, đoàn kết giúp đỡ lẫn nhau, các con cũng giống như bó đũa vậy, không kẻ thù nào có thể làm hại các con; nhưng nếu các con chia rẽ, các con sẽ bị bẻ gãy dễ dàng như từng chiếc đùa này."
